Can’t Tolerate CPAP?

If you have tried CPAP and are less than thrilled don’t feel too bad.  You are far from alone.  If fact  studies have shown that between one quarter to one half of patients prescribed CPAP don’t use it long term.  The problem is that if you don’t use it then you will continue to suffer the consequences of the sleep apnea including increased risk of stroke, heart disease, high blood pressure, fatigue, memory issues, and depression or mood swings.  The good news is that there is an alternative to CPAP.  Custom oral appliances can be a good first line treatment for people with mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea or people with severe obstructive sleep apnea who can’t or don’t want to use CPAP.

Custom oral appliances work by positioning the jaw forward in a way that opens the airway and allows free passage of air and oxygen in to your lungs.  Best of all, they are comfortable.  As a result compliance rates are very high, above 90%.

If you have obstructive sleep apnea and CPAP is not for you, consider an oral appliance to sleep better and feel better.
